Top 10 random things I could think of to write about
1. Sometimes when I want to snuggle with Beans, he is more interested in chasing geckos or biting me. Now, if he were a dog...
2. StarWorld has shown the same horrible clip show episode of The Drew Carey Show FIVE times in a row. Five!
3. One of my seventh graders has taught himself to barf at will. He uses this trick to get out of his classes. I know he's faking it, but...ew! There are reasons I don't teach elementary school, and "no kids barfing/peeing/pooping in the classroom" is one of them!
4. I've gotten totally addicted to that stupid Rock Star INXS show. Darn you, Mig, and your shirtlessness! Shake what your mama gave you!
5. I buns. (My husband typed that for me. I don't know what the heck it means. What a special individual he is.)
6. Sometimes I worry people forgot about us since we're so far away and have been gone for almost a whole year. An e-mail or blog comment that says "I'm still alive, glad you are too!" is all it takes to make two lonely, homesick people happy for a whole day! It doesn't cost extra to send an e-mail to a different hemisphere! I promise! :) Although, chances are I'm worrying about this because I don't currently have anything else to worry about. I'm very good at worrying! I'll offer my services for free if you ever need anything worried about!
7. Tropical climate=geckos. Cat+tropical climate=chewed up geckos on the living room floor. Thanks, Beans. Our brave little hunter...*sigh*
8. Cheerios cost about $12 a box here. Ben & Jerry's is around $8 per pint and Log Cabin maple syrup is around $7 for a bottle. None of these things faze me anymore...the only thing we've held out on so far are the Cheerios, but a person can only be so strong.
9. My Bahasa Indonesia ability is atrocious. I can get by, but I'm pretty sure I sound like a mental patient trying to speak Indonesian. Our driver was telling me he was going to wash one of our friends' cars the other day, and it was just starting to rain. I attempted to tell him maybe he wouldn't have to wash the car if it kept raining. What came out probably translated to "Maybe car Mr. Steve that no wash if tomorrow rain later yes?!" He laughed, but I don't know if it was because the bule was speaking Bahasa Idiot instead of Bahasa Indonesia, or because he's just a very polite man. This is not the first time I have made him burst out laughing because of my Lost In Translation-ness. Once, when trying to tell him I wanted to go to the store to buy kitten food, I eloquently explained, "I want to go to Bogor to eat cat." Also, the words for "head" and "coconut" are so similar (kepala/kelapa) that I've told him more than once that I had a coconut ache, thereby needed some aspirin.
10. I really like to make lists. I make "to do" lists with things I've already done on them just so I get to cross things off. When I lived with Bork-who also likes lists-and we went grocery shopping, I was nice and I shared. I got to make the lists and she got to cross things off. We make a good team!
That's about it...nothing terribly new here. We're about 1 4/5 weeks away from our week-long October break, and the END OF FIRST QUARTER! Ack! It goes so fast! Now if only the second quarter can go by as quickly... (Erin crosses her fingers and toes, which makes it hard to type, thereby ending this blog.)
