Frumpylicious

Well, Travis and I got our costumes for Indonesia Day. Mine is made of very pretty fabric, but unfortunately...it's extremely frumpy. It makes me look 40. Not that there's anything wrong with that, to quote Seinfeld, but I'm 25! The outfit itself is pretty but it's a little on the mother-of-the-bride side of things. It's OK, though, it's very traditional looking and still cool. I've seen some of our female students in traditional outfits, and they generally look at least 25, so I guess a 10- to 15-year age increase is standard with these things.

Travis is excited about his costume. He and Kale and Steve, a new expat, all have similar costumes, which are traditionally worn with kris knives. This NOT being the United States, it's perfectly acceptable to wear a large knife to school when it's part of a traditional ethnic costume. So of course, the three of them are off in Bogor tonight buying knives so they can wear them to the festivities tomorrow. Boys will be boys.

I've had a lovely night to myself, though, wandering through the house with a green clay mask on my face (this caused Beans' tail to swell to three times its normal size, as I looked rather alarming) and watching whatever I wanted on TV while eating tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner. Now I'm watching Desperate Housewives. Fabulous evening, really. Anyone want to come over and hang out? I've got chocolate ice cream in the freezer! And it'll probably keep for the 40 or so hours it'll take you to get here!
