I heart my AC
We have power. We didn't have power until five minutes ago, when Travis and I were laying in bed thinking, "How the heck are we ever going to sleep?!" and...then there it was! Almost 12 hours later. I guess the power went off sometime around 10 a.m., but our school's generators kept us, uh, in the dark about being in the dark until we got home. Murray, our headmaster, said the last time a blackout was this long, it was 2 1/2 days. Travis went to the convenience store nearby (which had a generator) and bought candles and extra bread and peanut butter, just in case. We ate a rather odd dinner by candlelight, watched the cat get candle wax on his feet, and then sat around thinking how much it sucked we didn't have our windows screened in.
We had our back porch doors open, since they also have screen doors, but we knew we'd have to sleep with the windows all shut for two reasons-one, no screens means mosquitoes the size of standard poodles can come in and eat us and two, our cat isn't quite with it enough to know that open window on second story=danger. I tried sitting in a bathtub full of cold water, which was fun-ish for a while.
Just as we were resigning ourselves to an awful night of sleep, on it came! I was so giddy. I love my air conditioner!
