Home Freezing Home
At last...our first semester of school and life in Indonesia is behind us and we're here in chilly Nebraska for three fabulous, frigid weeks.
Our trip home was uneventful. Our flights from Jakarta to San Francisco kind of sucked, but that's only because the first time we made the big trans-Pacific flight we flew Singapore Airlines, the Rolls Royce of air travel. This time we flew Cathay Pacific, which is allegedly Hong Kong's answer to Singapore Air. They weren't too bad, but it's hard to fly anything after Singapore Airlines. We had a grand time at the Hong Kong airport. The international terminal has some really great shops and (fanfare) a decent Burger King! Hooray. We got to San Francisco and had four hours to kill before our next flight. I found a coffee shop and scanned the menu for milk. I haven't had skim milk since we left in July and I miss it dearly. I felt a little silly asking the girl for just milk, no coffee, not steamed, but once I got it I was the happiest girl in the world.
Anyway, after another layover 8 hours later in Dallas, where we rediscovered the joys of KrispyKreme donuts, we got home! Unfortunately, when we landed in Omaha only one of our two big suitcases opted to show up. The missing one was the one with ALL the presents we'd bought. I CRIED (most of it had to do with the fact that I'd been up for more than 30 hours!) and then filled out a form with the baggage claim people. Good news, though-the lovely automated lady at American Airlines Lost Baggage place informed me just a few hours ago that our bag has been found and will be delivered tomorrow morning. Hooray!
We were pretty out of it last night. We were awake enough when we got home and were reunited with a certain black and brown puppy dog. I think if dogs can cry, he would have been. We certainly were. :) We got close to 12 hours of sleep last night, though, and have been pretty well-adjusted so far today-which means we've started making a dent in all the fetch-playing we've missed out on with Charlie. Well, I'm off to watch my favorite FoodTV show that I haven't seen in months! Ah, the comforts of home...
