Mother Nature shows her ugly side

Usually when Indonesia makes the news it's because angry members of some extreme religious group or another have decided to blow things up. This time, it's more bad news but none of it's man-made.

We've gotten a few phone calls and e-mails since the giant earthquake and tsunami hit part of Indonesia and other areas of Asia, so I figured I'd put up a short post. Our island, Java, wasn't hit. It's east of where everything happened, so our island and our city weren't affected. I don't know if there were any tremors felt in Jakarta, the Jakarta Post hasn't said anything about it so I'd imagine probably nothing major.

Still, millions of people were affected-towns were destroyed, families killed...so keep that part of the world in your prayers. I'd heard plenty of students talking about holiday travel to various parts of Asia, so I'm praying now that all of my kids and their families are safe.

Belated Christmas blessings to everyone. Selamat Natal dan Tahun Baru! (Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, of course.)
