Kami ada dua kucing

That's Indonesian (I think) for...we have two cats. CATS. For the record, I did not choose said cats, they chose me. We'd just gotten back from Jakarta and were dropping our friends we share the car with off at their house, and Alyssa, the daughter, pointed out two wee kitties in the middle of the road. What's a girl to do?

I went and picked them up, one orange and one black, and they snuggled up to me and each other and started purring. I'm not a cat person. Apparently I'm a helpless wee kitten person, though. They're both girl kitties as far as we can tell. We brought them home then had our driver take us to the closest pet store where we picked up a litter box, litter, food dishes and some kitten chow. I'll say this much-kittens are much easier to house train than puppies are!

When we got back we discovered that both kittens, whom we'd left in the downstairs bathroom, had fleas. We called our friends Jan-Mark and Angela, who have a cat, and asked what we should do since the stores were all closed and we won't be able to get flea medication until Monday. They advised us to submerge the kitties in water except for their little noses, so we filled up the downstairs bathtub. Oh what fun we had with two very wet, very angry little kittens. This got rid of the majority of the fleas, though, and now they'll just stay confined to the bathroom downstairs until we can get them some medicine.

I named the orange one Beans. Travis named the black one Stanislavsky. His reasoning is threefold: Stanislavsky is the father of modern acting, Stan is an amusing name for a girl cat and the name sounds very smart-thereby making Beans sound weird. Nice.

The fate of the kitties has not yet been decided. We have a dog, and just because he's in America while we're here does not by any means diminish the fact that he's our baby. As it stands, we're a foster home of sorts for the wee kitties until further notice. Oy.
