She bangs, she bangs!
No, no William Hung or Ricky Martin. I got my hair cut. My friend Julia (one of the new expats) and I went and had a bona fide girls' day out at the spa. I started out with a massage, which was one of the best I've ever had, while Julia got her hair highlighted. Then, while her color set, I got my hair cut. It has gotten ridiculously long, longer than I think I've probably ever worn it. I decided a few months ago that I'd just trim it a bit every now and then and grow it as long as I could until we come home in December, then hack off 10 inches and give it to Locks of Love.
My students complain to me that my hair is boring. It is boring, and I hope to do something less dull with it when I get it cut in December. Until then, I needed something a little different, so I had the stylist cut some bangs. I was a little afraid at first, because last time I had bangs, I also had a giant can of Aqua Net to hold them up all poofy and teased. Hooray for seventh grade. These are really nice, though, longish and sideswept. I love them. They make my massive forehead look less, well, massive. Travis likes them, too, and I keep catching him checking me out. Tee hee. ;-) The stylist, a fantastic Aussie woman named Julie, also put some really light blonde highlights in the front to lighten things up a little. Very nice.
Julia also got a massage and a new hairstyle, and then indulged in a pedicure while I had a manicure. The salon is part of a gorgeous little building that also includes a cafe/coffee shop and a little boutique. I had organic herbal-berry iced tea and some fancy-schmancy pesto, olive and cheese quesadilla-ish thing for lunch, and Julia had a cappuccino and Greek salad. We felt very fabulous...true ladies who lunch. Later we pretended to shop for designer shoes (yay, Prada!) we could never in a zillion years afford and did some massive bargain shopping at my favorite bath shop. www.lush.com Hooray for 70% off!
Of course, our husbands had a good time while we were being girly. They went electronics shopping, and mid-massage I received a text-message: "Hi honey can i get a wireless mouse and keyboard oh and ask julia can steve buy a printer" Could we really refuse, while we were sitting around getting pampered? So the guys got to do guy things, and Steve even got a little tool kit that came in a football shaped box. Fitting, really, a truly guy thing to do while his wife was at the salon. It was a very good day.
Beans gave us his usual stern lecture (lots of yelling at us in bahasa kucing-cat language) when we got home, but he was soon pacified by the presents we brought him-plastic bags. Best. Cat toy. Ever. So we're all happy and well, and as long as I can get my hair to look half as nice as the stylist did, we'll continue to be that way.
